How I came into a relationship with Jesus Christ
I was raised in a very moral home, even a church-going home, but it was not a Christian home. I always had a sensitive conscience because of my upbringing and was acutely aware of all the guilt I had from my sins. Several high school friends who had recently come to Christ began witnessing to me, and on Friday, July 14, 1972, I trusted in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
How I came to Harvest
I was hired in June 2018, to serve the Harvest people and staff as a Pastor and Theologian in Residence.
What I do at Harvest
My role involves biblical research for the preaching staff at Harvest. I compile a moderately-detailed exposition of the passages that are preached week-by-week. In addition, I assist staff with other biblical and theological questions and provide some of the teaching in a couple of different pastoral and support staff training programs. I also currently serve as the part-time interim campus pastor at Harvest Deerfield Road in Highland Park.
Why I do what I do
I do what I do because I love it! I love the people of God, and I love His Word, and it is a pleasure for me to help God’s people understand His Word a little better.
At Harvest since June 2018
On staff since June 2018; I was hired straight onto the Harvest staff from outside the church altogether.
Previous work For 20 years I was a Professor of Biblical Studies at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Before that, I worked 17 years as a pastor, most of that time as a solo pastor in smaller churches in Nebraska and Illinois.
Favorite verse Romans 8:28.
Married I have been married for 43 years (as of 2020) to my wife Sue, who has never once failed to provide an enormous amount of encouragement for me.
Children We have two married children. They and their spouses are strong believers, active in their own churches. And all together we have nine grandchildren who exhilarate and exhaust us at the same time.
